Barrels

Catch the wear before it stops the truck.

A barrel rarely fails without warning: the signs are in the blades, the centre band and the welds long before the day it lets go. Know what to look for, and talk to your state barrel contact when they start showing.

What We Look At

Five checks that tell the whole story.

The points that decide whether a barrel lasts, the same checklist we build our own barrels against.

  • Capacity

Is the barrel still suited to (and still delivering) the capacity your loading and mixing environment demands? Capacity should closely suit the work, not the other way around.

  • Blades

Blade wear and any early sign of splitting. Press-formed blades with mesh backing resist both, but no blade is immune to years of aggregate.

  • Centre band

The wear-resistant centre band protects the shell where wear concentrates. Watch how much life it has left before the shell starts paying instead.

  • Track ring welds

The welds around the track ring are what stand between a working barrel and a split one. They deserve a close look whenever the barrel gets one.

  • Dished end

The reinforced dished end and its internal reinforcing chamber carry the closed end of the barrel, worth checking for wear and damage.

Talk To The Barrel Team

Seeing the signs? Talk it through.

If the wear is showing, talk to your state barrel contact about what you’re seeing. They know these barrels, and they can tell you what’s left in yours.
